Republican candidates afraid of voters and refuse to debate

Republican political candidates in Michigan continue to hide and do everything possible to avoid debating their opponents and avoid a side-by-side comparison as they try and run the clock out because they believe they have a large lead, bought with a massive influx of cash from corporations.

For the most part, journalists have let them get away with it, but WDIV-TV4 anchor Devin Scillian called them out Sunday on his weekly political program “Flash Point.” He invited the top of the ticket – Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State – to debate on the show. But as usual, only the Democrats accepted.

Scillian relented and allowed GOP nominee Rick “Chief Executive Outsourcer” Snyder to appear separately on a prime-time Flash Point last week, and WDIV made sure big, mean Lansing Mayor and Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Virg Bernero got no where near the Outsourcer.

But When the Republican AG and SOS candidates declined to appear on the set at the same time with the Democratic nominees, Scillian - to his credit - held his ground, and said whoever shows up will go on the air in the state’s largest media market.

Predictably, only AG Democratic nominee David Leyton and Democratic SOS nominee Jocelyn Benson showed up to defend their positions and went on the air, and the Republicans chickened out.

On Sunday’s “Two guys named Joe” podcast, Joe DiSano and Joe Munem summed it up best. They said that if the Republicans refuse to debate then they can’t talk about transparency, they can’t talk about openness and they can’t talk about being accessible to voters. They can talk about those things, but they will be hypocrites.

The rest of the conservative, corporate media has failed to point out this hypocrisy. Let’s hope the voters see the truth.

So predictable. If you're not talking about Dingell, you're whining about debages, or the lack of debates.

It's a nice try to portray the Republicans as chicken to debate. But it's not true.

The Republicans have a massive lead in the Governors race. The debate did nothing to change that. The Republicans have a huge lead in the attorny generals race. The only real toss up is the Sec. of State and even that will likely go to the Republicans just because of the Republican wave this year.

There is no reason for the Republicans to debate. The people have already made up their minds in all be a very few races. The election is really not much more than a formality. The Socialist Democrats had complete power at the national level and they've abused it. At the state level, after 8 years of Michigan having the worst economy in the country, even while the rest of the country was booming until 2007, the people know that the only use for a socialist Democrat is to wipe our feet on as we walk in the door.

It's always the case the party that is favored always refuses to give as many debates as the outgoing group wants. I'm happy the Republicans are not wasting our time with unnecessary debates. The people don't believe what the candidates say anyway.

So, continue your whining. Your guys blew it and your bloviating isn't going to change the massive changes that are coming in 8 short days.

I stand by what I wrote, anonymous coward. Steele is just posturing because he wimped out of a forum in front of the Washtenaw County Medical Society. Wimping out is something you are familiar with, anonymous wimp.

Republicans are afraid to debate because their positions and lack of solutions to the problems they created cannot stand up to a side by side comparison.

So, in your warped mind because some poll says Republicans have a lead they can just blow off the voters? You sure are a Republican, anonymous coward. I can see how responsive Republicans will be to voters if disaster strikes and Republicans get power back, not to mention how harmful to the economy.

There is every reason to debate, and the most important is the voters. Once again, coward, there is no such thing as a Socialist Democrat in the United States, and that is just a false, Republican smear.

The Democrats “have had complete power at the national level and they've abused it?” you are so full of shit, anonymous coward. You are thinking about the Republican corruption that cost them control of the House and Senate in 2006. No one has come close to Cunningham and Abramoff. Michigan has a bad economy because of the Bush recession that caused two of the Big 3 to go into bankruptcy. Thank God Democrats were smart enough and courageous enough to save the U.S. auto industry that is now turning a profit.

No, it isn’t “always the case the party that is favored always refuses to give as many debates as the outgoing group wants.” That’s’ just you trying to rewrite history again, anonyms coward.

“Unnecessary debates?” Right, screw the voters and keep them in the dark. After all, that’s the only way Republicans win; that and the massive amounts of unregulated corporate cash.

We did blow it; but we can never sink as low as Republicans and campaign like
That. If we did I would get out of politics or find a third party.

Once again, anonymous wimp, I am still waiting for you to back up your outrageous lie that we were “nearly shoulder to shoulder once.”

It seems the father of the greatest burger flipper in Michigan got that right wing kool-aid flavor champagne ready to pop even before the first vote is counted. I never see people so giddy giving the country over to the corporations, the republicans for the record said they want to do away with the minimum wage so Father of the world greatest burger flipper how is junior going to pay for these things you claim he pay when your party is going to slash his pay?

I hope junior becomes the manager soon because your party is talking about letting Wall Street take over social security and you'll be fuck if Wall Street screws up.

The reason the Republicans aren't debating is because one they already know they got saps like you in the back pocket, two they want the corporations do their dirty work for them and three they don't want sane or normal people to know what they truly believe.

And how the news give Rick China endorsements is a joke, how can they justify endorsing a man that
1. That scares to debate.
2.Has no real plan.
3.Only time he talks to people for long periods of time are those who are already committed to vote for him.

Guru I have an idea maybe on your next post you should challenge your right wing lurkers to list Rick Snyder idea/plans are to fix the state and attacking Granholm isn't an idea or a plan.
