This is a platform to comment on local, state and national politics and political news. A special area of interest is the role of corporate media in politics as we move closer and closer to one huge corporation owning all of the media outlets in the country and stifling all independent and critical voices. It will also focus on the absurd 30-plus year Nixonesque political strategy of the “liberal media” lie. This blog is on temporary hiatus because of my job and thin-skinned Republicans.

Quote of the Week: Putin's head attacks Alaska
This week's Quote of the Week is dedicated to the VP debate Thursday night where Democratic VP Candidate Joe Biden scored a clear victory over Grand Oil Party candidate Sarah Palin.
The bar and expectations were set so low for Palin that many people actually thing it was a tie and that she even won. This was a woman who was making references to Civil War General George McClellan, I think. I guess she wanted him to move on Richmond.
Nielsen just released the ratings for the debate, and for the 55 local markets where Nielsen has electronic meters, the overall rating was 45.0. That's significantly higher than the Obama/McSame debate last week that had a rating of only 31.6. I think people were either waiting to see if Palin would repeat the disaster that was the Katie Couric interviews, or they thought they were tuning in to a Saturday Night Live skit string Tina Fey.
Here are a couple of doozies from Palin. If she ever faces the media and answers a question or two, we will have lots more to choose from. But I don't see the McSame handlers allowing that to happen.
"As for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?" Interview with CNBC's "Kudlow & Co," July 2008.
"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It’s Alaska. It's just right over the border." Explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008.

Guru, With the current economic crisis, surely the largest in our life time, I see you have remained silent during the whole week. Tail between your legs? As you always have some venom to spew. It is that you know it was the Demorats fault?
And as far as your header containing the Liberal Media lie. I am sure that Nobama does not apply to your statement. As the drive by media is so in the tank for your Messiah. Why did Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann get removed from anchoring Election Night programming. Could it be the wet feeling on his leg?
The Liberal Drive by Media is so in the back pocket of Nobama they have skid marks on their noses.
What a bunch of pure BS, hate America.
I was far from silent. I had quite a few posts this week. As for the recession and the economic crisis, I’m a lot like Grampy McSame, and I don’t know much about economics. What I do know is I have no idea how you can possibly blame Democrats. I have been saying for months we are in a recession, but the idiot that used to post here kept giving the BS, “Do you know the definition of a recession?“ You might want to look at the person in charge for the last eight years. Is he responsible for anything? You might want to look at Grampy’s chief economic advisor and the “get government out of the way” pack.
“Nobama?” How stupid and unoriginal. The header of my blog is correct. First, who ever said Sen. Obama is a messiah but you? Chris Matthews and Keith Oberman are not journalists, but neither is Sean haity and bill o’loofa.
Again, the liberal medias lie is a rightwing political strategy.
JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES TONIGHT
1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false.
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”
14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.
I just got hammered by another rightwing tool for using fact check, and now you use it. Fine, that’s one point. Where is the sources for the rest of them? I guess there are no sources for GOP talking points.
No talking points comrade,
Check factcheck.org all of his lies that night were verified to be lies.
Can you not see that the entire Democrat party is a lie.
And mush heads like you are gulity of pushing the lies when you spout liberal talking points
Again, I am not your “comrade.” Please, those are talking points and you know it. Factcheck did not even address the GOP talking points you posted that were sent you your email inbox. Factcheck never even addresses the fact that McSame voted against alternative energy 23 times.
The “entire Democrat party is a lie?” You are sure demonstrating how stupid you are. I know the Republican is wrong on every single issue, but the entire party is not a lie. Although that’s how they campaign by using lies. If the Democratic Party is such a lie, why is it that the Grand Oil Party does everything it can to suppress voter turnout?
I am not pushing anything but the facts.
You would not know a fact if it hit you in you head.
Here is a fact, the reason we are in the financial situation right now is the DEMOCRAT party specifically Dodd, Schumer, and Frank.
They fought against any oversight and in fact said that Fannie Mae and Freedie Mac were fine with no forseeable problems for the american people
You write "progressive dedicated to bettering my country, my state and my community."
You can could a shit about your country, community or state. If you did you would not be a socialist democrat. Look what happen to Russian comrade, look what happens to every socialist country, the daily life of the people is horrendous, but not there leaders.
You should be ashamed of yourself and your ugly wife.
What a joke. “Mother Mary.” Like I care what some person who can’t even write a complete, coherent sentence thinks of me. Let me get this straight; The Democratic Party is the one that caused the financial meltdown, and not the party that has controlled all three branches of government for the last eight years except Congress for the last 18 months whose mantra is “get government out of the way?”
The only time I would ever feel ashamed of myself is if I voted for someone in the republic party.
