Quote of the Week:OMG you guys are jerks

This week's Quote of the Week sounds like it can from the captain of the high school cheerleading team, but, surprisingly, it came from former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

She was lashing out at a report from Faux News that she did not know Africa was a continent and what countries were part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The reports from the McCain campaign were just confirming what glimpses we saw from the very few media interviews she did. Palin, of course, used the old GOP standby of blaming the media for her lack of intelligence, or maybe for daring to report it.

The weird thing is that during the campaign the press could not get within 10 feet of her to ask an impromptu question, but after the election I can't turn on the TV and not see her face. Granted, most of her appearances are on Entertainment Tonight and other show biz type shows, but isn't her 15 minutes up? We can only hope.

Her excuse for the more than $150,000 spent on her for clothes and makeup is laughable. Republican Party lawyers are still trying to determine exactly what clothing was purchased for Palin at such high-end stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, what was returned and what has become of the rest.

But here is our Quote of the Week:

Livingston County Democrats willing to give their obsolete phone booth to state GOP

To quote the late great Jackie Gleason, How sweet it is. Tuesday's Democratic electoral victories were sweet, and our quote of the week really reflects that.

This is a quote we Livingston County Democrats have heard directed at us for many years, and I believe it was first put forth by an editor at the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus who once ran for the state House of Representatives as a Republican. Something to do with local Democrats can hold their meetings in a phone booth. But when you consider more than 42,000 people in the Livingston County voted for President Barack Obama, and Supreme Court Justice Diane Marie Hathaway actually beat incumbent rightwing Republican Cliff Taylor in the county it will have to be a big phone booth.

Perhaps we can lend that phone booth to the Michigan Republican Party since we have not needed it for a few years.

Quote of the Week: What part of America do you live in

I wonder what part of America I live in? The pro-America or the anti-America part?

We have just one more week of ridiculous, dumb and disgusting quotes from Republican Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, so I chose her as the Quote of the Week. We know the Republican strategy of fear and finding an issue that divides the country has worked so well for Republicans in the past, but it will fall short this year.

Back to the all important question of what part of the country I live in. I live in a Blue state, but I wonder if Howell is a small enough of small town to qualify as the "real America" and the "Pro-America Area?" I also wonder what I have to do to be patriotic? I pay my taxes, I served in the military and I vote in every election. Perhaps someone can tell me what else I can do.

Quote of the Week: Ann Coulter-like Congress critter channels Joe McCarthy

If you ever wondered what would happen if anyone would be dumb enough to ever actually vote for rightwing hatemonger Ann Coulter we just need to look at the example of Minnesota rightwing Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

She is really out there, and she showed that on a recent episode of "Hardball with Chris Matthews" where she voiced the McCain campaign strategy that Sen. Barack Obama is somehow "un-American" because he doesn't share her extremist views. Unfortunately, her view is held by too many people who somehow believe if you don't agree with them you are un-American.

Bachmann apparently wants to bring back the Committee on Un-American Activities that made Red-baiter Joe McCarthy infamous. Apparently, Bachmann also worships the disgraced Senator just like Coulter does.

Bachmann has tried to deny the comments and blame it on the media because it may cost her the election. This Quote of the Week is dedicated to Michele M. Bachmann

Quote of the Week: McCain pals around with terrorists

This installment of Quote of the Week is dedicated to Grampy McSame and his fading memory.

He apparently forgot that he actually "pals around with terrorists" not just serve on a board with a person where he has no control of. I am referring, of course, to McSame's friendship with convicted Watergate burglar and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy. The convicted terrorist has even gone as far as hosting a fundraiser for McSame in his home.

Former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein, who with Bob Woodward broke the Watergate story that revealed the corruptness of the Nixon White House, wrote in his syndicated column recently that when respected University of Illinois at Chicago Professor Bill Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, Liddy was making plans to firebomb a Washington think tank, assassinate a prominent journalist, undertake the Watergate burglary, break into the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist and kidnap anti-war protesters at the 1972 Republican convention.

Quote of the Week: Morris gets it wrong again

This Quote of the Week is dedicated to the worst political pundit still employed: rightwing tool and noted Clinton hater Dick Morris.

Morris was the speaker at Cleary University in Howell's Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series, and he dished up more of his boring old hatred of Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Quote of the Week: Putin's head attacks Alaska

This week's Quote of the Week is dedicated to the VP debate Thursday night where Democratic VP Candidate Joe Biden scored a clear victory over Grand Oil Party candidate Sarah Palin.

The bar and expectations were set so low for Palin that many people actually thing it was a tie and that she even won. This was a woman who was making references to Civil War General George McClellan, I think. I guess she wanted him to move on Richmond.

Nielsen just released the ratings for the debate, and for the 55 local markets where Nielsen has electronic meters, the overall rating was 45.0. That's significantly higher than the Obama/McSame debate last week that had a rating of only 31.6. I think people were either waiting to see if Palin would repeat the disaster that was the Katie Couric interviews, or they thought they were tuning in to a Saturday Night Live skit string Tina Fey.

Here are a couple of doozies from Palin. If she ever faces the media and answers a question or two, we will have lots more to choose from. But I don't see the McSame handlers allowing that to happen.

Quote of the Week: Please do not pay attention

This week's Quote of the Week goes to GOP Presidential nominee Grampy McSame, who is looking for any excuse to get out of a planned debate with Democratic nominee Barrack Obama set for Friday evening at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

A few days ago McSame said he'll suspend his campaign and return to Washington to join talks over the Bush administration's proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. He also said he wouldn't take part in Friday's scheduled debate unless the crisis is resolved. Obama said president's have to do more than one thing at a time, and you wonder how much effort it takes to hop on a place from DC to Tennessee to debate for 90 minutes then fly back.

Obama said he plans to be there, and there is word a deal in principle on the bailout has been reached, meaning McSame may have to go to class and get schooled.

Quote of the week:Fake pig outrage

This week's Quote of the Week is dedicates to the presidential ticket of Grampy McSame and Spiro Palin and their fake outrage.

You will recall that the McSame campaign came unglued recently when future President Barack Obama said McSame's policies were the same as Bush's failed polices but with a little lipstick to dress them up, using the old cliché that you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. The fake outrage came immediately from the right when they accused Obama of calling Palin a pig, based on her "joke" in her acceptance speech where she said she was a hockey mom and the only difference between pit bull and a hockey mom was lipstick.

But before Grampy launches into another made up controversy, he should have checked if he had said it, because he did, at least three times. The quote of the week is when he said it about then Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's health care plan. This time, McSame was referring directly to a woman, unlike Obama who was referring to McSame.

Was McSame calling Hillary pig? I doubt it. He just needs to remember when he flips and when he flops.

It’s vaguely, not vaguely, eerily reminiscent of what they tried in 1993. I think they put some lip stick on the pig, but it’s still a pig, John McCain, talking about Hillary Clinton’s health care plan.

Revived Quote of the Week feature highlights GOP VP pick

The recent open mike situation showed that right-wingers are just as appalled as the rest of the country is over the choice of the inexperienced and ethically-challenged Sarah "Spiro" Palin as the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee.

A new feature here at The Conservative Media is the Quote of the Week. This is similar to our Ann Coulter Quote of the week, but this will not always be as disgusting as those that come from the queen of hate. However, she may be featured on occasion. You never know what stupid, hateful crap will come out of her mouth.

This inaugural quote comes from conservative radio talk show host and self-styled family expert Laura Schlessinger where she talks about Grampy McSame's pandering pick of Palin as his running mate:

Coulter Quote of the Week: Dedicated to the organizers of the Counter Coulter event

This week’s Coulter Quote of the week is dedicated to the good folks at Livingston County Voter’s Voice and the Community Unitarian Universalists in Brighton who are sponsoring a “Counter Coulter” event to provide a positive counter to the queen of hate’s appearance in Livingston County.

Jonathan Cohn, a senior editor at The New Republic magazine, will appear at the Howell Opera House at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 to lead a discussion on the state of health care in the country. The price of admission is a donation. Cohn is appearing free instead of charging $30,000 plus expenses like Ann Coulter. The proceeds will go to The Livingston County Free Dental Clinic for Children. Coulter’s process will go to fuel more hate.

Cohn is also a media fellow at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and a senior fellow at Demos a non-partisan public policy center. Cohn writes about domestic politics and policy with a primary focus on health care. In April he published his first book “Sick: The Untold Story of America's Health Care Crisis --- and the People Who Pay for it." Cohn has also written for the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, Mother Jones, Rolling Stone and Slate. A graduate of Harvard University, he now lives in Ann Arbor with his wife and two children.

Without further ado, here are a few recent gems of hate from the queen of all hate commenting on the Iraq report. I have no idea why they would ask her to comment on that either, but they did.

Coulter Quote of the Week: dedicated to rightwing bloggers and Xavier University students

This week’s two Minutes of Hate, otherwise known as the Coulter Quote of the Week, is dedicated to two people this week.

The first is dedicated to the folks over at “rightmichigan.com.” They attacked Sen. Mark Schauer, D-Battle Creek, because Ken Brock, his Chief-of-staff, was paraphrased in an opinion column by a reporter as calling one of Schauer’s potential opponents in the Democratic nomination for the 7th Congressional District seat a "liberal, Jewish trial lawyer.” What he was doing was talking about how hard it would be for David Nacht to win the nomination in a conservative district that has been held by Republicans for years. The same day Brock apologized for the remark, and Mr. Nacht accepted the apology and understood the context the unfortunate word, “Jewish,” was used. However, it took four days for the good folks over at wrongmichingan to post the apology.

The second dedication goes out to the students at Xavier University in Cincinnati who raised more than $25,000 in a “Counter Coulter” campaign – the speaking fee Ann Coulter was charging the Xavier University College Republicans and Young America’s Foundation to speak for them – to donate to tolerant student groups at a counter event held the same day Coulter is speaking. Great job.

Here in Livingston County, in less than three weeks the queen of hate will be at Cleary University’s Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series speaking for Cleary University, speaking for the Livingston County Republican and further reinforcing the false notion that Livingston County welcomes racists of all ilks. She will collect her $30,000 for 90 minutes of hate, and she will be gone.

Coulter Quote of the Week: Law and order that only benefits the GOP

This week's Coulter quote of the week can be dedicated to a number of people. We have another rightwing conservative gay basher in the news that rallied against homosexuals and discriminates against them being outed as gay.

The GOP should no longer be called the Grand Old Party. It can be called the Gay Old Perverts. But this week’s quote is dedicated to former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. He proved that the party of law and order is only the party of law and order if it benefits Republicans and not the country. It also proves the U.S. Constitution is something that can be ignored and abused to get what you want.

Without further ado, we can expect a few of these gems at Cleary University’s Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series in October. These are examples of raising the political discourse and enriching the community? I don’t think so either.

Coulter Quote of the Week: dedicated to the LIVCO GOP Chair

This week’s Coulter Quote of the week is dedicated to Allan Filip, chair of the Livingston County Republican Party.

Mr. Filip wrote a letter-to-the-editor that appeared in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus today that accused the Livingston County Democratic Party of carrying “picket signs with handwritten hateful slogans” in the Howell Jaycees Melonfest Parade on Saturday. These were a few of the “hateful” signs Mr. Filip was referring to:
“No spying on Americans.” “Mike Roger's voted against children's health.” “Support the troops, bring them home.”

If Mr. Filip considers that hate speech, he must be totally outraged at the hateful and racist speech that comes out of the mouth of Ann Coulter every single day, and he must be so outraged by her speech that he will go as far as to lay down in the middle of Grand River Avenue to ensure she does not speak at Cleary University’s Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series in October for a cool $30,000.

Some how, I don’t see that happening.

In an ironic twist of fate, Mr. Flip is the husband of Janet Filip, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Cleary University, the person who actually books the speakers for the Livingston Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series. She had a wide choice of speakers who actually would have fulfilled the stated mission of the Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series of enriching the Livingston County community, but she instead chose a rightwing hatemonger.

This week’s quotes are just routine, Coulter examples of raising the bar for political discourse in the country.

However, just think how outraged and disgusted you would be if these two Coulter gems were handwritten on poster board picket signs and carried in a parade.

Coulter Quote of the Week: If she’s a Christian then I’m a conservative Republican

I got some new Coulter quotes this week, but you will never guess where I got them: on a Christian radio show. I kid you not.

This proves the queen of hate will go anywhere, appear with anyone to sell her trashy books to make a buck. I got an email prompt that she had appeared on this Christian radio show called “The Way of the Master Radio.” I don’t know much about it, but the guy who played the annoying teen on the 80’s sitcom “Growing Pains” is behind it. Coulter was there pushing the paperback version of her last book, and she claimed she was a Christian. I almost fell out of my chair.

Her behavior is nothing like I remember from the many years I went to Sunday school. From the time I was three-years-old in Mrs. Agnes Massengail’s Sunday School class to the time I left home and joined the Navy I went to Sunday School and church at the Monroe Church of God because my grandmother made sure of that, but I never remember any Bible stories that condoned the crap coming out of Coulter’s mouth.

She not only claimed she was a Christian, but she claimed she was a born-again Christian. The host, who sounded like the classic DJ that I grew up listening to on CKLW that has almost become a parody, asked her when she was born again. She, of course, could not remember when, but she guessed it may have been when the “adulterer and liar was in the White House.” I’m assuming she was referring to President Clinton, based on her pure hatred of one of the best presidents in history. More likely it was when she realized she could make some more bucks by adapting to the audience she was appearing before.

There are only six more quotes of the week left before the queen of hate collects her $30,000 – how many pieces of silver is that? – and speaks for 90 minutes at Cleary University’s Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series and further tarnishes Livingston County’s reputation and labels us as a community that welcomes racists of all ilks. Coulter Quote of the Week: Coulter supporters condone censorship

If it wasn’t bad enough that the Senate Republicans and Senate Majority “Leader” Mike Bishop clearly demonstrated how low he will stoop to shut critics up by illegally censoring a progressive blog and stomping on the First Amendment’s Freedom of the Press for daring to call him out on his foot-dragging and attempt to hold the state budget hostage for his political gain, but his defenders are somehow spinning that outrageous and illegal behavior to defend Ann Coulter’s upcoming appearance at Cleary University.

As you know, last week Bishop ordered "Blogging for Michigan" blocked from being accessed from Senate computers, using the false claim that the blog was “created by a Senate employee using Senate equipment” and staffers were wasting time reading and posting comments on it. After an outcry from both the left and right, Bishop relented, but he said he would be back.

It was nice to see even rightwing blogs realize how heavy-handed and illegal this was and joined in calling Bishop out on it, but it didn't take long for rightwing bloggers to somehow compare what Bishop did to me trying to stop Coulter from getting paid $30,000 to appearance at Cleary University and their Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series and further reinforce the false claim that my hometown, Livingston County, is a safe haven for racists and bigots of all ilks, like Coulter.

Even subscription only Gongwer had this snaky comment on the story it ran on Bishop backing off of his censorship attempt.

“Though ironically, on the blog, Ms. Barry has encouraged Cleary College in Livingston County to not invite conservative columnist Ann Coulter to speak at a college fundraiser.”

There is nothing ironic about it at all. This is very basic. The Founding Fathers created the First Amendment to stop the government from shutting down the press when they criticize the government. That is exactly what Bishop did. I am not the government, and there is no way I can ever censor Ann Coulter. I can try a boycott or try and force school officials to see the error of their ways in embracing and paying a hateful racist handsomely for their hate speech. I will try those things, and it is not illegal, censorship or infringing on her freedom of speech.

I have no problem if she comes down to Howell and speaks on the steps of the historic Livingston County Courthouse for free.

So these mundane, run-of-the-mill nuggets from the queen of hate are dedicated to the people who do not understand the most basic American right that protects all others.

Coulter Quote of the Week: Septic tank diving for quotes

Finding outrageous and hateful material for the “Coulter Quote of the Week” series is pretty easy, but it does have its drawbacks. When ever I get a little low on quotes I have to go to her columns and pick a few out.

For those of you who live in the country, like many people here in Livingston County do, you are familiar with what a septic tank is like. It’s kind of like diving in the full septic tank buried deep in your yard; I can find plenty of material, but it’s pretty disgusting wading through that hateful crap the voice of the Republicans writes. A shower never seems to be enough.

But as Ann Coulter’s $30,000 appearance at Cleary University and their Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series draws closer, I will never had to think abut the queen of hate again. The lessons I have learned during the more than six months since it was announced that Coulter would be speaking at and for Cleary University have been hard ones.

One hard lesson is that what I thought was a great learning institution seems to be little more than a rightwing shrill factory, and common sense and decency go right out the window when it comes to a famous right-winger, no mater how disgusting and disgraceful. It seems ticket sales – and there is no way the school will make a profit in this – matter almost as much as expressing their rightwing views. There is no way possible Cleary President Tom Sullivan can possibly defend the stuff Coulter says that is published here week after week as “enriching the community.”

But back to the quote of the week. I used to wonder who Ann Coulter hates more: blacks, Muslims or liberals. Cleary, it’s more than the three-quarters of the U.S. who don’t hold her narrow, hateful and discriminatory views.

Coulter Quote of the Week: the queen of hate goes underground: or to faux news

All quiet on the Ann Coulter front. Since the media blitz from the queen of hate after her latest piece of trash was published in paperback form a few weeks ago we not heard much from her. We have also not heard anything from her since she got smacked down by Theresa Edwards on “Hardball.”

Since we have not received a new shipment of Coulter hate speech, outrageous comments and stupid quotes, we will have to go to our always-full vault of Coulter's outrageous and hateful comments. So just 11 more weeks before Cleary antes up $30,000 for Coulter to spew her venom for 90 minutes.
