Resistance to hatemonger is building

This Letter-to-the Editor that ran in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus today was too good to pass up, so I decided to post if for an audience outside of Livingston County. Many people I have talked to feel the same way as Mr. Henderson does, and there is a group of people trying to persuade Cleary University to come to its senses and find a better speaker.

Apparently, the Executive Board of Trustees for the University is meeting later this month to talk about her appearance.

Ann Coulter is a hatemonger. Her invitation to the 2007 Livingston Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series is an affront to all who seek peace and justice. Here are only a couple of her outrageous pronouncements:
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."

"Whether they are defending the Soviet Union or bleating for Saddam Hussein, liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots, and on the matter of America's self-preservation, the difference is irrelevant."

Please reconsider the invitation offered to Ann Coulter to speak in Livingston County based on the above.

The acceptance of similar hate speech paved the way for Hitler's rise in the 1930's and must not be repeated.

Robert L. Henderson

Ann Coulter speaks the truth that you wished you had the guts to say. I welcome Ann with open arms to the area.

Coulter has never spoken the truth, and I would be appalled if I ever said some of the trash that comes out of her mouth because I am neither a bigot nor a racist. It’s funny that local Republicans are denouncing the crap she says, but you welcome her with open arms. At least your honest in your assessment that she speaks for the Republic Party.
