This is a platform to comment on local, state and national politics and political news. A special area of interest is the role of corporate media in politics as we move closer and closer to one huge corporation owning all of the media outlets in the country and stifling all independent and critical voices. It will also focus on the absurd 30-plus year Nixonesque political strategy of the “liberal media” lie. This blog is on temporary hiatus because of my job and thin-skinned Republicans.

Blogosphere was buzzing about the queen of hate’s appearance
Both the Michigan and national blogosphere were buzzing yesterday about the appearance of the queen of hate Ann Coulter at Cleary University’s Livingston Economic Club Speakers Luncheon Series in Livingston County.
Our cruise director, Liberal Lucy, got the buzz going and picked up the fight on Michigan Liberal with the help of an excellent piece of art from Mike Ramsey.
Rich over at Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood took Rogers to task for his sponsorship of Coulter’s racist and hateful remarks and positions.
Nicole Belle took up the fight on the national and busy Crooks and Liars.
LL’s diary on the national Daily Kos also generated lots of traffic and comments.
Back here in Michigan the echo began, and blogers began spreading Lucy’s message to their readers. Over on Democracy for Metro Detroit the message generated lots of interest.
Over on Democratic Edge they gave Coulter back just a little bit of what she has given anyone who doesn’t’ agree with her warped view of the world with this headline, “Coulter (the bigot whore) is coming to Cleary University.”
Celeste Whiting over at Our Michigan speculated on why verbal abuse and propaganda is so popular, and why it’s earning Coulter so much money.
As you know, Cleary’s executive committee of the board of trustees plans to meet Thursday to discuss the matter. I have posted the contact information for the entire board below. I suggest contacting them directly and politely telling them Cleary University should not be embracing Coulter’s racist, discriminatory and hateful views. For some members I could not find contact info at all, and for others all I could find were home phone and address.
If you contact them please be polite, and I request you let us know the results of your contact with the board members, and if you have better contact info please let us know that too.

CG, Could you tell me what involvement the Press Argus has had with bringing this despicable piece of garbage to Livingston County?
I need a good excuse to cancel my subscription.
The newspaper is a sponsor of the series. I think sponsoring the series is a good thing if the school lives up the LEC goal “to enrich the Livingston County community by hosting speakers who can share a broad spectrum of social, political, intellectual and cultural experiences.” Coulter does not enrich anyone or anything but herself. I don’t think any of the sponsors have much to do, if anything with choosing the speakers, but if they don’t voice their opposition they are endorsing her hate, prejudice and discrimination.
I have long been a supporter of newspapers, so before you cancel your subscription perhaps you should ask them to denounce her appearance.
Well, if they're sponsor then they're heavily involved and should be able to reject that hatemongering b____!
Thanks, you just saved me a few bucks a month - I'll cancel my subscription when I get home tonight.
I support Ann Coulter; she speaks her mind and protects us against these dreaded godless liberal Democrats.
I try to pattern my own public behavior after her. I think she says exactly what this community needs to hear.
Why am I not surprised? So this means you are a bigoted hatemonger?
Right, liberals are Godless. I have a real good friend who is a liberal. I dare you to call Godless.
He feed the hungry, simply because they were hungry. He didn’t ask them for money. He didn’t require that they go to work first. He healed the sick, simply because they were sick. He didn’t push them into an insurance company, or let the drug companies gouge them on prices. He rejected greed, violence, and the glorification of power, the amassing of wealth without social balance, and the personal judging of others, their
lifestyles and beliefs. Pretty liberal beliefs, don’t you think? His name, by the way, is Jesus Christ.
If he's a liberal, I'm sure he's godless.
And how dare you call the Lord a liberal? If he were here today, he would embrace Republican values.
You’re calling Jesus Christ godless? I know you have a screw loose, but really. He would embrace Republican values? Like Tom Delay’s or Newt Gingrich’s values? Get real.
These are the values, I least what I was taught in the church I went to, of Jesus Christ. He fed the hungry, simply because they were hungry.
Now, can you show me one “Republican value” in there?
Looks like Cleary U doesn't like to get run out by the Kos mob. It's good to see a victory for free speech.
What's free about $30,000?
With the political make up of the board of trustees and the decision makers it’s going to take a lot more pressure to change their minds. There’s still time, and I’m sure your spokesman will say a lot more discriminatory and controversial things before Oct. 1. The question is will it be enough to change the closed minds? We’re going to keep trying.
What the hell is the “Kos mob?” All the letters I saw to Tom Sullivan were local.
It's been nice chatting with you, this is my last post on this blog. There are lots of things to do before May 8th.
I'll stop by on May 9th and reveal the winning strategy.
You don’t have to bother; after the so-called “love” candidates are soundly beaten I’ll post it. By the way, is your anti-gay hate group ever going to revel its endorsements?
I think it's pretty obvious that Jesus would have been considered a progressive or on the Left in his time. This raises a question that I've often though about though: would yesterday's liberals who took positions that today might be considered conservative be likely to have continued to keep up with the times and change the contents of their positions to continue to be progressives? In other words, would for instance a liberal from the pre-gay rights days support gay rights today? While this is all purely hypothetical, I'm inclined to think that the general idea of being liberal, progressive or "on the Left" is more of the "essence" of a person than are the positions taken at any given time, such that the positions on issues would change or develop rather than being adhered to for the sake of the positions themselves.
