Wilson is the newest Joe the Plumber

There are a few things you can count on in this world, rain in April, the Detroit Lions breaking your heart and rightwingers making a hero out of someone who makes an ass of themselves. The latest rightwing hero is U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-South Carolina.

During the President’s address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday night, the President debunked the rightwing lie that the evil illegal aliens will get free health care, and the classless jerk from South Carolina shouted “you lie.”

Apparently, He must have thought he was at an Astroturf Tea Bag” event or a staged townhall meeting

This is from Factcheck:

Claim: Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.

False. That’s simply not what the bill says at all. This page includes "SEC. 152. PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTH CARE," which says that "[e]xcept as otherwise explicitly permitted by this Act and by subsequent regulations consistent with this Act, all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services." However, the bill does explicitly say that illegal immigrants can’t get any government money to pay for health care. Page 143 states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." And as we’ve said before, current law prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in government health care programs.

You can guarantee Wilson will get the hero treatment just like Sam “the cable box promoter” Wurzelbacher, and Wilson will be get invites to more “tea bag” events and Lincoln Day dinners all over the country. All you have to do is disrespect the President, your office and yourself to make a name for yourself in rightwing world. That’s a small price to pay for fame and notice.

It was as disrespectful as back-benchers like Mike Rogers waving sheets of paper when the camera cut to them during the speech. It kind of reminds me of when a TV crew is at a crime scene and people run to get their face on camera.

Annenberg Factcheck is dogcrap. That's been proven over their lies back in the campaign over the truthful NRA ads on the Joker Obama's record on the 2nd Amendment.

Where's the enforcement mechanism to make sure illegals don't have the government health care? It doesn't exist.

Wilson called out your hero, and you don't like it. My only complaint about is that he apologized. He shouldn't have done so.

C'mon, Republican Michigander, be fair. Wilson was way out of line by yelling "you lie" during a presidential address to Congress.

That's just not how we do things here. What in the world would have been the reaction had someone done that to Bush or, god forbid, to the sainted Ronald Reagan? Republicans would have been seeking the death penalty.

Wilson was totally out of line and you risk being as pig-headed as guru by suggesting otherwise...

Not Anonymous said...

I have to agree with Kevins. What Joe Wilson did was wrong. He wasn't wrong in what he said, he was wrong in where he said it. He lowered himself down to the Democrats level.

Obama also did the same thing just prior to Wilson doing it. He said that those claiming the health plan would end seniors lives prematurely was a "lie". When have you ever heard a President say "lie" in an address to the Congress? They'll say disengenuous or misleading, but that's the first time that I've heard of that a President has said they were a lie.

Joe Wilson was right. Obama did lie. But he shouldn't have said it there.

By the way, Kevins, similar things were done when Bush was President. Democrats booed and hissed when Bush spoke in that venue.

During these speeches, which normally take place only as a State of Union speech, they cheer for the President of the United States. Not the guy in the position, but the position itself. It's called respect for the office.

Wilson was wrong for yelling that out. He is sorry that he did that and I have no problem with him apologizing for breaking protocol. He did not apologize and is not apologizing for what he said. He's only apologizing for where he said it.

“Annenberg Factcheck is dogcrap?” Sorry, I’m not buying it. “The Joker Obama?” Well, if the NRA sys so. Give me a break.

“Where's the enforcement mechanism to make sure illegal aliens don't have the ‘government health care?’” It’s called a Social Security Card, for one.

Wilson not only lied, he disrespected himself, Republicans and Congress. He may think he’s at a staged townhall meeting or an Astroturf “tea party, but he was is in Congress. Well, what can you expect from a man whose hero is Strom Thurmond. It must gall him to see Obama standing up there. Oh, well, the good news is his opponent got a fundraising bonanza, and the American people are starting to see what you tea baggers are all about, and they don’t like it.

Communications guru said...

Oh, that’s rich. First, he was wrong in what he said because it’s simply not true. But to claim, “He lowered himself down to the Democrats level” is unbelievable. How many townhall meetings did Democrats disrupt and hijack? The answer is zero.

When it’s Wilson’s turn to speak on the floor of the House, no one will call him a liar. Let me see if I got this straight, your problem with the President is that he used clear language? Just sad.

Joe Wilson was wrong twice, and President Obama did not lie. Do you have any evidence to back up your lie? Of course not.

When did Democrats boo and hiss Bush in the House chambers?

Not Anonymous said...

So you want to know when Democrats boo'd and hissed Bush in the House chambers.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/0909/Dems_heckled_Bush_but_Wilson_was_different.html

How many town halls did Democrats disrupt and hijack? Well, let's start with their manual on how to disrupt. http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3725

www.rollcall.com/news/37569-1.html?CMP=OTC-RSS

And of course there is the protestor protesting the protestors that crossed the road and bit the finger off of a protestor of health care. But I'm sure you justify that somehow.

Then there were the SEIU thugs that pushed the guy with stage 4 cancer into the wall and wouldn't let him in to the town hall while his daughter was inside trying to get out to get him. Thugs wouldn't let her out either.

If you want to see Obama's lies, all you have to do is read the bills.

Another little interesting factoid. Obama called Clinton a liar during the campaign.

I still can't find where any President has ever used the term "Lie" in a speech to a Joint Session of Congress. But now we have our one instance.

Not Anonymous said...

I'll save you some typing. I'm sure you want to go screaming like a little girl after I said that Obama called Clinton a liar. Actually, he called him a "bald faced liar".

Oh and Mark Schauer not having put on any town hall meetings. This from the Dexter Leader. Here's part 1.:

The good people in Michigan's Congressional District 7 represented by Rep. Mark Schauer will soon find out just how well they are being represented by the congressman. Is Schauer going to cast his vote on the national health care plan based on what the majority of the people in his district want or based on what his political party wants?

And what do the majority of people in his district want? Good question. Apparently, Schauer isn't interested in finding out the answer to that question. If he truly wanted to check the pulse of his district he would be making the rounds, just like he did when he was campaigning.

When he was running against Tim Walberg, Schauer was everywhere. He was in Dexter and Chelsea and Manchester. He was spreading his message and listening to the people.

But where is he now? Health care is a pretty big deal. In fact, this could be the most important vote Schauer casts during his stay in Washington. Shouldn't he be out listening to the the same people he is being asked to represent?

Yes, he did a recent phone town hall or whatever they called it. People call in and are screened by his handlers and then allowed to ask a question. Do they weed out the negative people? Are those calling to voice their disapproval placed on hold longer than someone trying to cancel a cable TV package? Are they put on hold so long that the town hall comes to an end before they can ask their question?

I will just raise these questions. I will let you come to your own conclusions.

One thing to file in your hard drive about the phone town hall: this media outlet received notice one day before the phone town hall took place. One day. No time to get it in the newspaper. No time to let the people in his district, the ones he should be listening to, get the message.

President Obama's approval rating has dropped to 47 percent, a new low, according to the Rasmussen Reports daily tracking poll. Another Rasmussen Reports Poll shows 53 percent of Americans oppose the Democratic health care reform efforts while 42 percent support such action.

Not Anonymous said...

And part 2.:

The numbers tell us that at the very least some people don't want this. Mr. Schauer should be out in the coffee shops, township halls and restaurants meeting with his people so he can determine if it's "some," or "many" or "most."

We aren't debating here whether this is a good plan for America or Michigan or Washtenaw County. We are debating whether or not our congressman cares what we think. We are debating why our congressman is not running around his district educating, informing, disproving misconceptions and listening. People are looking for some answers ... that's all.

One answer I would like is the answer to this question: Apparently, there is language in this bill that states people will be allowed to keep their personal health insurance and not use the government single-payer plan. But it also states that these personal health insurance plans must meet federal guidelines. I would like to know if this is true, what the guidelines are and does m y plan meet them?

Another question concerns the cost of this plan. I won't ask who is going to pay for it. We all know the answer to that one. But what's the cost involved? How many people are going to have to be hired to run this thing and at what salary? And is the price going to be equal to the care we receive?

See. I have some questions, too. But who do I ask? Where is our representative?

I got an e-mail last week from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. It states, "All week, fringe, far-right organizations funded by shady, unreported sources have been ginning up their supporters to disrupt Democratic town hall meetings."

It's a good thing there are no fringe, far-left organizations funded by shady, unreported sources. But I digress.

Maybe these are just people scared of losing control of their own health care. Taking away someone's control over their health care and the health care of their loved ones is a pretty emotional thing. Turning over a postcard to the federal government and hoping it reaches Aunt Suzie in Wichita is one thing. Turning over your 10-year-old son who is having difficulty breathing to the federal government is a completely different thing.

And we deserve to at least know that our boy is in capable hands. And we deserve to at least know what is in this bill, what does it mean to me and my family and how much this is all going to cost. And we deserve to have a representative in Washington representing us.

Mr. Schauer, host a town hall in Chelsea or Saline or Dexter or Manchester. Give us a week to inform our readers that you're coming to listen, explain and clarify. Bring copies of the bill. Highlight sections that help explain why this is a good thing. Show us you read this, understand it and believe in it.

The people will listen to you if you listen to them. Isn't that your job?

Ooh, the Washington Times. There’s an unbiased source, Anonymous. Like the column said, “I had never heard it at least at that level before.” To me, it sounds like it has happened before. I can not think of an instance where a back-bencher like Wilson lied and called the President of the United States a liar during a joint session of Congress. Normal people think that’s over the top, but after the ugliness that has taken place at the “tea parties” and town halls, you consider that OK.

The Traditional Values Collation? You’re kidding, right? I’m still waiting for the proof of this alleged manual. The Democrats have never disrupted and hijacked a townhall meeting.

What about the protester? He never crossed the street. He was trying to get across the street where the liberal protestors were. My friend had a tea bagger try and take the bullhorn from her at the Millpond. She’s about 5-2 and 120 pounds. He didn’t get it. So, when sane people have finally had enough of you tea baggers hijacking meetings and stand up, you’re blaming them for the violence? Unbelievable.

If you want to hear lies, go to a “tea party.” Everything the President said is true.

Really; Obama called President Clinton a liar when he was addressing another joint session of Congress? How is that possible?

I don’t care if you ever find a speech where the President used the term “lie“ during a joint sessiion of Congress, it’s irrelevant. Still, that’s a long way to go; all the way back to Washington.

Communications guru said...

Good old Terry Jacoby. Sorry, he certainly did hold townhall meetings.

Someone's been hitting the meds pretty hard. I never referenced the Washington Times.

If you're capable, and I really don't think you are in your drug induced state, look back at what I said. I said that Wilson told the truth, but he was wrong for saying it in the middle of a speech to a joint session of congress. That's not the place.

Amazing as it sounds, all of the networks reported on the liberal crossing the blvd and biting off the finger of the protestor. Again, ease up on the meds.

If you want to see the manual, go to the link provided. They provide a link to the manual on that site. I suspect though that you're really not interested in seeing the manual.

Again, if you look back at what I said, I said that Obama called Clinton and bald faced liar during the campaign. I do apologize though. It seems I'm using words that are too big for you to handle.

Washington is a long way to go? Here, let me give you a hint. Get a job. Buy a car. It's a long way, but you can drive there in less than 10 hours. Unless that mental disability you seem to have going there prevents you from learning to drive.

I'll give you credit though. You fit right in with likes of guru. You two seem to be a match made in heaven. Or better put in your language "duh".

Communications guru said...

Maybe someone has “been hitting the meds pretty hard,“ but it wasn’t me. I never said you referenced the Washington Times, but the article you referenced did. It said, “In 2004, Democrats delivered a “Chorus Of Boos” during Bush's State Of The Union when he called for renewal of the Patriot Act., according to the Washington Times.”

Wilson did not tell the truth. This is from Factcheck: “Obama was correct when he said his plan wouldn’t insure illegal immigrants; the House bill expressly forbids giving subsidies to those who are in the country illegally. Conservative critics complain that the bill lacks an enforcement mechanism, but that hardly makes the president a liar.”
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/09/obamas-health-care-speech/

Sorry, he was trying to cross the street. Again, ease up on the meds. There is no manual, and if there is one, it’s for fighting back against the hijacking of town halls. I’m not interested in seeing the manual because there isn’t one. There’s a press release from that rightwing group, but no manual.

So who cares if Obama called Clinton a bald faced liar during the campaign? Was he or she the President addressing a joint session of Congress Yes, Washington is a long way to go; George Washington that is because that’s how far you need to go back to find the term “lie” in a speech. I have a car, and a job; two in fact.

“You fit right in with likes of guru?” “You two seem to be a match made in heaven?” Exactly who do you think you are talking to, anonymous? Speaking of meds…

The Annenberg foundation was set up by Walter Annenberg. It funded Chicago's Annenberg Challenge (where Bill Ayers and the punk Obama worked together). It also funds so called "Factcheck" and lied about the NRA ads when its parent foundation donated to the Brady group.

It may be "non-partisan" but it is biased as anything else in the media.

Bill Ayers and the President never worked together; they served on a board at the same time. Sorry, the Anneberg Foundation is nonpartisan. They never lied about your precious NRA. Republican Michiganander or whatever you call yourself I wish you guys on the right just admit your hate for President Obama are based on two reasons 1. He's a Democrat and 2. he's black. Because the stuff you guys are complaining about i.e. government spending doesn't make sense when you guys backed massive government spending when Bush and the Republicans were in control.

But R.M. you and the other right wingers should get credit for one thing at least. You guys have rediscovered that little thing called freedom of speech after eight years of denying it to Bush's critics.

Think about the progress the right has made towards free speech remember six years ago if you said you're ashamed that you're from the same state as the president the right rewarded you with rallies smashing your cds, radio stations owned by the president supporters will ban your music and death threats from that president supporters. Now you call the president of the United States a liar the right wing rewards you with having their media pundits defending your right to call the president a liar and you get the same people who took part in smashing Dixie Chicks cds and sending Bush critics threats will call you a hero and raise money for you.

The Republicans have thrown down with the nuts and the racists because they have no vision other than give those who already have more.

In the last 48 hours, we've heard a President call people that have discovered the end of life provisions in the bill, liars. We've heard the President say that there were no provisions for illegal aliens to be covered under the proposed health care bills that he's pushing.

We've heard a Congressman shout out "You Lie" following the illegal alien statement.

The congressman apologized to the President and he accepted the apology. But that's not good enough for the socialist Democrats. They want another apology on the floor of the House or they will punish him. Too bad they didn't have these standards for themselves.

There is now a report on MSNBC (amazing in itself) that Obama has capitulated to N Korea. But then, we've been saying all along that would happen.

A pro Life protestor was shot in Owosso Michigan this morning outside of a school in front of the school children. The victim? A 65 year old man that must use a walker and carry oxygen to breathe. His offense to the Anti Life people? He props up a sign, then prays.

A bomb threat was called into a Tea Party support office in DC and the police evacuated the building.

A White House Economic advisor says that high unemployment will continue for years. Yes, plural.

Two ACORN offices are caught on video tape offering advice to a couple saying that they want to bring in underage children for prostitution purposes. The advice? Claim them as dependents.

Oh, and what else has happened to Joe Wilson, the representative that shouted "You lie"? He's gotten over $750,000 in donations for his campaign in the last 48 hours.

How about a preview of tomorrow. Well, there's going to be a tax rally or tea party in DC. After gathering over 10,000 in Illinois and over 5,000 in Brighton Michigan, one can only imagine how many will show up in Washington.

Nonnymouse wrote: In the last 48 hours, we've heard a President call people that have discovered the end of life provisions in the bill, liars.

Here is what Obama said...Some of people's concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.

(emphasis mine). Now, tell us, nonnymouse where did he lie?

Nonnymouse wrote: We've heard the President say that there were no provisions for illegal aliens to be covered under the proposed health care bills that he's pushing.

Let's compare that to what Obama said...There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally. And, in case you haven't read HR 3200, you can read it here.

(emphasis mine) It's even typed in all caps for you.

Blah blah blah...I really suggest if you are so against socialism that you avoid everything on the following brief, but incomplete list:

**Food from a grocery store
**Highways
**Any product subject to safety standards set by our socialist government
**Police departments...don't call them for help...ditto for the fire department
**The list is endless

Those who throw around the word socialist really shouldn't discuss politics as it is clear they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

And so we're all clear, booing and hissing the President is nothing new. He is not a king, he is not royalty and does not deserve to be treated as such.

For those whining about Bush being booed and hissed, here are a few things which occurred during Clinton's administration:

State of the Union address, 1995:

"The upheaval wrought by the Republican election landslide was visible throughout the president's State of the Union address -- from the moment Speaker Newt Gingrich took the gavel to the striking silence that often greeted Clinton from the GOP. At one point, Republicans even booed. About 20 of them left as Clinton went on and on for an hour and 20 minutes."

Associated Press, 1/24/1995

State of the Union address, 1997:

"Clinton spoke disparagingly of a GOP-sponsored constitutional amendment to balance the budget. Many Republicans hissed and some booed."

Los Angeles Times, 2/5/1997

State of the Union address, 1998:

"Clinton's proposal to expand Medicare to allow Americans as young as 55 to buy into the system drew shouts of 'No!' and some boos from Republicans during his speech."

Chicago Tribune, 1/28/1998

I'm sure we could trade this stuff back and forth all day long, if we had the time and inclination to research it. I do not.

I do, however, have the time and inclination to laugh and mock the whining, puling, and general asshattery of the Republicans. They've done it for 30 years I have paid attention to politics. In today's world, though, they can't hide from their words and deeds according to their customs, and it is chapping their ass.

Have fun at the teabagging!
