County Democrats put their money where their ideals are

The Livingston County Democratic Party is donating $1,000 toward the reward leading to the arrest of the vandals involved in a racially motivated crime in Hamburg Township, according to the Ann Arbor News.

On March 4, vandals broke into the Portage Lake home and cut mattresses with a knife, shredded and spray-painted clothing and sprayed paint on the walls and curtains, including the words “Go Nigger" scrawled on the wall.

Several donors, including the Livingston County Democratic Party, are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who broke into a Hispanic woman's home last week, wrecked the interior, and spray-painted it with racial slurs. The Livingston County Democratic Party is donating $1,000 of the reward with the rest coming from anonymous donors.

"We want to send a message that the majority of Livingston County residents are caring and responsible people, said Democratic Party Chairman Matt Evans. "The ignorant, hateful individuals who did this don't represent our community.''

Hamburg Township Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call police at (810) 231-9391.
