Join the MSU College Democrats Sunday to make Michigan a better place

Join the Michigan State University College Democrats in Battle Creek this Sunday for a District Invasion to canvas on behalf of Rep. Martin Griffin, R-Jackson, in the race for the vacant 19th District seat in the State Senate.

To don’t have to be a College Democrat to participate in this important election less than two weeks away. Heck, you don’t even have to be a Democrat; just someone who cares about good government. The plan is to carpool from Spartan Stadium and spend the day canvassing.

The campaign can’t promise hotel accommodations like the Republican opponent is, or even booze like the GOP leadership does, but they are offering breakfast, lunch, a t-shirt and a chance to make Michigan a better place.

This is the first step in taking back the Senate like we did the House in 2006. The Republicans enjoy a thin 21-16 lead with the vacant seat, and they are pulling out all the stops to win it back. They see it as the first step in keeping control of the Senate in 2010. More people voted for Senate Democrats in 2006, but they gerrymandered the districts so badly, they kept control.

Griffin was first elected to the House in 2006 when Democrats took control of the House. Prior to that, Griffin served as the Mayor of Jackson from 1995 - 2006. Griffin has experience in government at all levels; local, state and federal. He served for 12 years as a staff member in the Michigan Legislature and five years with U.S. Rep. Carl Pursell.

Griffin also has a long list of accomplishments and involvement, including chairing the Jackson County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, a member of the Economic Development Corporation of Jackson, a member of the National Association of Realtors, a member of the City of Jackson Planning Commission, a Trustee of Ella Sharp Park Board, a Downtown Kiwanis member, Urban Core Mayors Group, Trustee for Police and Fire Pension Boards and on the Cascade Humane Society Capital Campaign.

You neglected to mention that Griffin has been charged with Campaign Finance violations as of today. I'm sure that's just an oversight and that you wouldn't leave that out on purpose.

I neglected to mention it, anonymous, because I can’t find a mention anywhere of Rep. Griffin being charged with Campaign Finance violations. I looked on Google, the rightwing blogs and the newspapers covering Jackson and Calhoun counties.

Even if that were true, it’s a very fishy time to make such a charge.

Convenient that you can't find it. All I had to do was search for it through google. Oh wait, you said you did google it. I must have one of those "right wing" googles.

Your link doesn’t work.

It's working perfectly fine. Perhaps you should learn copy and paste if you can't take the time to look up the site yourself.

I should have known you lied. “You said Griffin has been charged with Campaign Finance violations as of today.” That is another outrageous lie from you. This is the blurb you seized on:

“Complaints have been filed against the campaigns of Battle Creek City Commissioner Ryan Hersha and Jackson State Representative Martin Griffin. Hersha is running for re-election to the commission. Griffin is running to fill the state senate seat left vacant by Congressman Mark Schauer. Peter Christ, who runs a local consulting service says Hersha and Griffin have made contributions or have expenditures that violate the Michigan Campaign Finance Act. Christ filed his complaints with the County Clerk’s office on Wednesday.”

Ant idiot can make a complaint, even you, but that doesn’t make it true. Even if your lie was true, that he was charged, that doesn’t make it true either.

I guess Nofs is getting desperate.

The guy brought a complaint. He's charging that those two have violated Campaign finance laws, as did Mark Schauer.

You pasted the story and still you claim that what the reports says is a lie. I'm beginning to think that if you put your shoes on the wrong foot, you'd still say it was right.

As for the timing, well let me think about that. We're in a campaign right now. So what's odd about the complaint coming out now? It is, after all, in the midst of the campaign.

Now, I do understand why you'd want it to be saved until after the election if your guy won, which is appearing more and more that he's not going to beat Nofs, he's not going to lose his seat for his illegal activities if he's guilty. He'll be just like Mark Schauer. He'll pay a huge fine that's likely paid for by taxpayer money, and that will be the end of that. Just like the criminal Mark Schauer.

He brought an unsubstantiated complaint, so what? Even a liar like you can file an unsubstantiated complaint. Days before an election we get a complaint from a Republican. Great timing. There is a huge difference between being charged and a complaint. I think even you can recognize that, anonymous. I saw nothing about a complaint or a charge against Congressman Schauer.

“He'll pay a huge fine that's likely paid for by taxpayer money?” What are you basing that lie on?

Gee, why am I not surprised that you'd make excuses. I can even predict what you'll say after the election. 'Griffin lost due to misleading advertisements and lies in those ads.'

He won't lose because he's the worst of the two. You'll have excuses for his loss.

Not working today huh? I wonder how your wife feels about you sitting at home rather than trying to earn enough money to get her the health care she should have.

Excuses? What excuses, and for what?
