Real Chicago style politics

No one could miss the disgusting attacks on President Obama with the ridiculous smear, “Chicago style politics.”

Apparently, the smear is meant to imply Obama and Mayor Richard Daley - both father and son - are corrupt. There is no evidence of any corruption, but that doesn’t stop them from saying it. It falls into the GOP strategy of “if you tell a lie often enough people start to believe it.”

But a recent police report concerning former Cook County Republican Chairman Gary Skoien demonstrated the real “Chicago style politics.”

It seems Skoien had two prostitutes in his children’s playroom when his wife walked in on him earlier this month. His 36-year-old, 5-foot-4-inch, 110-pound wife beat him with her fists and an electric guitar, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

It’s also one more case of the real family values from a party that loves to tell us they are the party of family values.

This is the best example of spin that I've seen in quite a while.

I've learned not to take your word for things when you say them. So I read the actual story that you were kind enough to link to.

According to the man beaten, he was with a friend in the children's play room. Not two prostitutes. He asks a good question. If he was with prostitutes, why wasn't he arrested? Prostitution is illegal.

You also failed to mention that they've been living in separate parts of the house while they attend counseling to try to salvage their marriage.

You also failed to mention that his wife attacked him previously while he was shaving.

You also fail to mention that his wife spent two days in jail for her actions and that there is now a restraining order keeping his wife from him and their three children.

You really put out a good spin. Now I'll give my spin. This is what happens when Socialist Democrats and Conservative Republicans intermarry. She, being the socialist Democrat, resorts to violence when upset about whatever she's upset about. He, being the Conservative Republican follows the principle of never hitting a woman and takes the beating rather than disrespecting a woman by hitting her back whether she deserved it or not.

She has multiple examples of resorting to violence. He has shown a respect for the rule of law by not striking back and by having a restraining order to protect himself as well as his children.

Oh, by the way, here's the story from the link you provided.

Inverness Police say former Cook County Republican Chairman Gary Skoien admitted having two prostitutes in his children’s playroom when his wife walked in on him early Sunday morning.

The allegation is in a domestic battery report from Skoien, 55, against his 36-year-old, 5-foot-4-inch, 110-pound wife. He said she beat him with her fists and an electric guitar.

But Skoien said the police report inaccurately stated that he had prostitutes in his home. Skoien said he and a friend were talking in the playroom when his wife came down and began beating him.

Eni Skoien spent two nights in a lock-up before being released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

The police report said Skoien had cuts and blood on his hands and there was blood on the walls and stairs near the playroom.

The police report said Skoien “told [the responding officer] he did in fact have prostitutes with him in the playroom when his wife caught him.” The playroom looked like “a struggle of some kind took place there...There were items turned and tossed around the room,” the report said.

“That’s how it was reported to us,” Barrington/Inverness Police Deputy Chief Jerry Libit said.

Allies of Mayor Daley blasted Skoien four years ago when he offered a $10,000 “bounty” four years ago for information that would lead to Daley’s conviction on corruption charges.

The remark got Skoien fired from his real estate job, cost him a seat on the Metra board and prompted calls for his ouster as party chairman, He survived a re-election vote, serving from 2004-2007 as chairman of the GOP, which has not elected a member countywide in 17 years.

Current Republican Party Chairman Lee Roupas said, “It’s an extremely disappointing and unfortunate situation, if the allegations prove to be true.”

Skoien was an aide to former Gov. Jim Thompson and serves as Palatine Township Republican Committeeman.

He said he and his wife of 13 years have been living in separate sections of the house for a while and getting counseling but that he went to police after she hit him last Tuesday while he was brushing his teeth.

“I went to the police to find out what I should be doing,” he said.

On Sunday night, he said his wife was driven home from a function and she went to bed. Skoien called a friend who came over and they were talking in the playroom when his wife woke up and began beating him with her fists and “a hard heavy electric guitar,” he said.

“I called police because I thought I was going to be killed,” Skoien said.

Skoien went to talk to the arresting officers Wednesday after his stories hit the news, trying to convince them that he did not confirm his wife’s contention that she found him with prostitutes.

“If there were hookers, I’m not sure why the police didn’t arrest me -- that’s illegal too,” Skoien said.

He said the officer stuck to his contention that Skoien nodded in affirmance when told his wife’s version of events. Skoien said he disagrees.

Skoien obtained an order of protection that prohibits his wife from having any contact with him or their three children, ages 5, 7 and 8, he said.

I didn’t “fail to mention anything,” brett. I provided the link to the article so people can read it for themselves. See, unlike you, when I make an accusation or make a point I provide the source and proof.

Basically, it’s his word against three people; the two police officers who were there who Skoien tried to get to change their police report, and the wife.

“Skoien went to talk to the arresting officers Wednesday after his stories hit the news, trying to convince them that he did not confirm his wife’s contention that she found him with prostitutes.”

“The police report said Skoien “told [the responding officer] he did in fact have prostitutes with him in the playroom when his wife caught him.” The playroom looked like “a struggle of some kind took place there...There were items turned and tossed around the room,” the report said.”

“That’s how it was reported to us,” Barrington/Inverness Police Deputy Chief Jerry Libit said.

There is also no such thing as a “socialist Democrat” in this country, and that is just a tired, fascist Republican talking point. Can you show me in the story where it says she is a Democrat? She was also in jail for the assault.

It’s kind of funny, you claim with no evidence that I’m spinning it and that he didn’t have prostitutes and doubt the police report, but now you claim the police report is correct and the assault occurred. You are the one spinning, brett.

And where are the “multiple examples of resorting to violence” from the wife? We have the assault that you say may not have occurred, and an incident the husband says occurred.

The nature of spin is that you mold the story to fit the facts. I said right before saying she was a Socialist Democrat that I was about to give "my spin" and went on to talk about interparty marriages. Apparently, you're able to give a spin, but you don't understand spin.

According to the story, he was fired for daring to challenge Mayor Daly, from his real estate job, and cost him a seat on the metra board. That sounds like Chicago Style Politics to me.

If a report is printed in the press, and it's incorrect, it's only natural for the person to try to get the facts straightened out. The police say he admitted to having a prostitute over, but he wasn't arrested. He says that they are saying he nodded when the police say that he had a prostitute there. Let's see, he was cut on his hands as if defending himself from her. He was hit over the head with a heavy electric guitar.

I would think that after being hit by a guitar, he'd be seeing stars floating by for some time afterwards.

To be honest, I don't know what happened. Everything in the paper is "alledged". They can't say for certain because they weren't there. He may have had a prostitute there. He may have just had a friend there. His friend may have been a prostitute.

I have not said that the police report is correct. I haven't said it's incorrect. The fact is there are only three people and possibly six people (If you include the three children) that know what really happened.

I have a brother in Chicago and he says if the police say it, verify and then still don't believe it. Skoien is a politician. That makes his word questionable just due to that. One thing that it seems everyone agrees with is that his wife has attacked him twice. Once while brushing his teeth a few days before this incident, then this incident. How do I know that they agree? Because she spent two days in jail, and now has a restraining order against her to keep her from her husband and their children. It's very difficult to get a restraining order to keep a mother from her children, so apparently, the police, husband and judge agree that she's the aggressor.

You've take alot of questionable comments from the story and made it a political statement. Now you whine because I do the same thing.

Lastly, my name isn't Brett. You seem to have a fetish about Brett. I thought you had said earlier that you were married. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you are, is your wife aware of your fixation on another man? Or is Brett a female and you're diddling on the side?

I understand spin, and that’s what you were doing. No, it appears he was fired because he is a lying scumbag. It’s not the press report he is saying is incorrect, it’s the police report. The police are sticking to what they wrote in the report. Having prostitutes in your home is not illegal. You have to have evidence that money changed hands, and the report doesn’t even say if the prostitutes were even still there when police arrived. It’s kind of hard to make an arrest on that kind of evidence.

I have no idea if what your brother says about Chicago police is true or even if you have a brother, but what I do know is we are not talking about Chicago Police. It was the Inverness Police Department. I’m assuming that’s a Chicago suburb.

His word is questionable, but it’s because he is a Republican. “One thing that it seems everyone agrees with is that his wife has attacked him twice?” Wrong. The brushing his teeth incident is on the GOP chair’s word alone.

I don’t recall whining any where. What I did was punch holes in your argument.

If you’re not brett, then don’t worry about it, but with your track recoded of dishonesty in posting as multiple people, I know you are brett.

You said: "It’s not the press report he is saying is incorrect, it’s the police report."

My response: This whole thing is coming froma press report. You provided the link. It's the press reporting what was said and done from start to finish. Sheesh, please tell me that you're not really this stupid.

You said: "but what I do know is we are not talking about Chicago Police. It was the Inverness Police Department. I’m assuming that’s a Chicago suburb. "

My response: Amazing. You said in what you wrote "Chicago Style Politics". You even said it in your headline that you put on this thing. Now you want to switch between Inverness and Chicago? You have to assume that Inverness is a suburb? Don't you verify things before you say them? my mistake, I already know that you don't.

You said: "The brushing his teeth incident is on the GOP chair’s word alone."

My response: You idiot. He called police about this incident where she hit him with the electric guitar. He's saying the reports are wrong about the prostitutes, and he said he called the police on the earlier incident. They didn't deny it. Good God, do you have to work to be this stupid or does it just come naturally?

All I can do is sit here and shake my head and wonder if you need someone next to you as you walk saying 'move your left foot forward, now your right foot, now your left foot, now your right foot, now your DON'T STEP IN THE COW DUNG!!'

Amazing. You are wrong on this, and you have the gall to call me stupid? Unbelievable, brett.

Once again, it’s not the press reports your boy is saying is incorrect, it’s the police report. Why would he try to get the police to get the press to change their reporting?

The Village of Inverness is an affluent suburb in Cook County. Your boy was the chair of the Cook County GOP, which includes Chicago. Now, just because he doesn’t choose to live in Chicago is irrelevant.

Correct, the brushing his teeth incident is on the GOP chair’s word alone, and that is suspect. The wife was arrested after the prostitute incident. He is saying the police report about the prostitutes is wrong. The police say otherwise.
