Senate Democrats stage bloodless coup

LANSING -- Senate Democrats staged a bloodless coup Thursday and briefly took over control of the Senate.

The minority Democrats used some procedural magic and wrestled control of the Senate from the majority Republicans, who have a 21-17 edge in the Senate. Democrats - with the help of Sen. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Lansing - took advantage of the fact three Republicans were out of town to pull off the takeover.

While the majority party, the Democrats managed to discharge Senate Bill 124 from Judiciary Committee to the full floor. The bill addresses the recent interpretation of law by the Michigan Supreme Court in the case Kreiner v. Fischer, and it gives more freedom in the courts for people who have been seriously injured in an auto accident.

Although that is a real victory for the regular guy over the insurance companies who have not lost a case in the Michigan Supreme Court for the past 10 years, the real enjoyment was the look of befuddlement and frustration on the face of Majority Floor Leader Alan Cropsey. Priceless.

As someone who has been hoping that this bill passes, I am confused. Does this mean that this bill has passed??

I was injured by no fault of my own and this would mean I just might be able to recover some, if not all, of the more than $20,000 I have lost from that careless driver.

Unfortunately, no. It made one important stop on the way to becoming a law. Bishop is trying to bottle it up in committee and kill it. This got it out of committee, at least.

And you think this is right to take advantage like this.

Another despicable move by the Democrats.

If the Republicans had done this you would have been whining from the top of the mountain of the taxes the Democrats have put on us.

They have flushed this state down the toilet.

8.5% unemployment and the laughing stock of the nation.

Thank you Democrat leadership

You’re dam right I think it’s right to take advantage of this. It never would have happened without the help of Republican Senator Bruce Patterson, who is just one more senator disgusted with the lack of leadership and obstructionism of Mike Bishop.
The Republicans controlled both the House and Senate prior to November 2006, and they controlled both with an iron hand, especially the House. They disenfranchised more than half the Michigan voters. The ironic part is more people voted for Democratic senators in 2006, but the Republicans gerrymandered the districts so badly that they kept control of the Senate by just three seats, despite getting outvoted.

Are you actually blaming the country’s recession on the governor of Michigan, and the Michigan House? You are an idiot.

Do you always call people names? I did not call you a name. I bet you are 36 years old and live in your Moms basement.

You definitely are a liberal with all the name calling when facts are not on your side.

Hey stupid when did I say I blame the Granholm and the other moron democrats leaders for the nations problems. The country is not in a recession MI is.

I blame Granholm and her gang of Democrat Morons as well as a few Republican morons for MI having the worst economy in our nation. They raise our taxes last year and guess what our tax revenue goes down for this year.

How do explain that one stupid?

I also asked you if you will support Republicans pulling this same type of tricks the Democrats pulled? Why can you not answer that simple queston a one state recession got your tongue?

I would not normally call people names on blogs but it appears to be your "M.O." so I will abide by your rules.

Also retart you stated "They disenfranchised more than half the Michigan voters" yet you are for it when the liberals do it like you just applauded them for.

How can you support the Democrats when they are taking this state down the crapper, you can not even be intellectually honest. Oh I forgot on top of being stupid you are a flaming liberal and it is impossible for liberals to be intellectually honest because they would lose most agruments.

Communications guru said...

Only when they display their ignorance like you did. If you can’t stand the heat, don’t post your misinformation here. If you think I’m living in my mother’s basement then you have obviously not been reading the blog. Again, it says right off the top I’m a proud liberal, and if you read further you will see how I have been personally attacked here. If you can’t stand me calling you out, then don’t post here. Or better yet, know what you’re talking about.

Are you serious? When did you blame the Governor for the nation’s problems? We are not in a “one-state recession.” That’s a republican talking point, and the entire country is in a recession because of the lack of leadership in the White House.

”They raise our taxes last year and guess what our tax revenue goes down for this year.” I’m not sure what that alleged sentence means, so I will have to guess. The legislature raised taxes because there was not enough money coming in to support important government programs and ensure the state’s infrastructure is maintained that will attract jobs to the state. Tax revenue is down because people are spending less, jobs are paying less wages and the sky high gas prices are affecting the economy.

Of course I will not support republicans for being smart enough to take advantage of the rules like the Democrats did. Would I would be is angry; angry at the leadership of my own party for being so stupid for letting it happen and not keeping control of our caucus. It’s not my fault or the Democrats fault that Mike Bishop can’t control, his caucus. He needs to stop worrying about running for governor and start thinking about the people of Michigan.

The word is retard, genius. You are also wrong. Bruce Patterson, a Republican, was promised by Bishop that his bill about annexation would move and be approved, and he did not keep his word. Without Patterson, it never would have happened. How is Patterson disenfranchising voters?
I support the Democrats because they reflect the values of the middle class and provide hope for the poor, and this country has historically thrived under Democrats. The republican administration has done its best to flush this country down the toilet, but the polls are showing people have had enough of that. If I’m so stupid, then why can’t you beat me in a debate? I am a proud liberal. I’m not sure what a “flaming liberal” is, but I’ll take it. I have been more than “intellectually honest,” and I will never lose an argument to the likes of you. I’ll make the same bet with you that shuts up the rest of the rightwing tools that come here and I kick their ass in debate. I’ll bet you know of at least one friend or relative who has a better life because of a liberal program.

You fill your blog with half truths and misinformation and then you accuse my of that, classical liberal movment because they rarly can win an debate on the facts.

Classic

Point out one bit of misinformation in my post.

Also if you think your are sooo smart then call in on the Live with Renk show on WBCK and show him how smart you are. Debate your mindless points.

Or does your mother not let you use the phone during the week?

Communications guru said...

My writing has stood up to the scrutiny from a lot of rightwing tools, such as yourself, and they could not disprove anything. In the few times I have made a mistake, I admit it and correct it. As for your misinformation, the first one was claiming Michigan is in a “one-state recession.”

I never said I was “sooo smart,” but compared to you… Why would I waste my time listening to another rightwing tool? Do you do PR for this guy? Better yet, are you this renk guy? Like most people, I work during the week, and I’m not going to waste my time calling some rightwing tool. If you want to listen to some quality and entertaining radio, listen to Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartman, Randi Rhoades or Rachel Madow.

Anonymous said...

First of all I do not believe for one second that you "work during the week" you most certainly do suck off the teet of the government.

Second, your half turths and lies on your blog have been pointed out to you numerous times with facts to back them up and you just stick your head in the sand and say "no it's not"

Third we are the only state in the union in a recession you "TOOL" as you like to say.

And fourth like Renk says, guys like you do not have the courage to call into his show and discuss issues in a calm and rational manner, because the facts rarely back you up. As he says guys like you can only spot off your half truths and lies in anonymity.

Man is he right, you do not even have the courage to call in.

Adios comrade and say hello to your Mom upstairs for me, I think she just yelled downstairs that your peanut butter and jelly sandwich is done.

Oh about the Air America horrible shows you listen to (but I thought you work and do not have time to listen to them, interesting) anyway I all have to do is listen to any type of newsmedia and I get the liberal nutcase view of things.

Communications guru said...

First of all, who gives a crap what you think. You’re half right, I do get a monthly check from the government, but that’s my military pension. Again, there are no” half-truths and lies” on my blog, at least not from me. There are plenty of them from rightwing tools like you, but I don’t let them get away with it.

Again, the entire country is in a recession.

I don’t give a crap what you or this renk guy say. Do have any original thoughts of your own? Or maybe you are him. If so, no wonder you’re pushing so hard to get listeners because neither one of you apparently knows what they’re talking about.

Bye. Next time maybe you can come back when you have some facts and know what you’re talking about. I won’t hold my breath.

Those shows aren’t all Air America shows. I never said I could not listen to them at work, I wouldn’t think of calling during working hours. And I subscribe to the Stephanie Miller pod cast. The rightwing political strategy of the so-called “liberal media” has just about run its course.

Please show all of us one hard fact that the entire country is in a recession.

ONE hard fact and I will admit that I was wrong about you.

One fact is all I ask of you or I have just pointed out another lie on your blog

Anonymous said...

By the way I am a listener of the Live with Renk show and I do have original thoughts if you think I do not because I listen to his show then the same came be said about you listening to all the left wing nuts you listen to.

Also his show is Number 1 in the 9 - 10 am slot. Apparently beating out everyone of the left wing nuts you listen to.

Also on:

Obama the flip flopper

1) On FISA

"To be clear: Barack will support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies."
-- Obama spokesman Bill Burton, Oct. 24, 2007

Obama now says he'll vote in favor of the new FISA bill that gives the telecom companies blanket immunity for post-Sept. 11 eavesdropping.

2) On NAFTA

Back then, in the yesteryear of primary season, he thoroughly trashed the North American Free Trade Agreement, pledging to force a renegotiation, take "the hammer" to Canada and Mexico and threaten unilateral abrogation.

Today the hammer is holstered. Obama calls his previous NAFTA rhetoric "overheated" and essentially endorses what one of his senior economic advisers privately told the Canadians: The anti-trade stuff was nothing more than populist posturing.

3) On Public Financing

Obama turned down $84.1 million in federal money in opting out of the federal system -- the first major-party candidate to do so since it started in 1976. His campaign is betting it will collect far more than that from his donors.

“The United States has entered a recession, according to highly-regarded investor Jim Rogers in Oct. 2007. http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSL2474133320071024?feedType=RSS&feedName=businessNews&rpc=23&sp=true
Harvard University economist Martin Feldstein, a member of the group that dates business cycles in the U.S., said the nation has entered a recession that could be the worst since World War II. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a4X6mkUEJ07c
As housing prices continue to tumble in most regions, forecasters from Chapman University said Tuesday that the U.S. economy had fallen into a recession that wouldn't ease until next year. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a4X6mkUEJ07c
No one has ever pointed out a lie from because there is simply not one to point out. There are differences of opinion, lots of them, but no lies.

Communications guru said...

I have never head of the rightwing nut job you're talking about. The difference is I am not quoting the talk show hosts I listen to. Its number 1 where?

You are seriously calling Barack Obama a flip-flopper? The challenge is trying to find an issue that Grampy McSame has not flip-flopped on. He has flipped-flopped on every single issue.

As for Obama on FISA, he said the provision that gives a secret court, rather than the White House, the final say on spying procedures changed his mind. I disagree, but that’s just one issue.

I don’t know if Obama said the NAFTA rhetoric is "overheated" but the stuff about his advisor saying it is simply not true.

Obama never said he would accept public financing, he said he would “aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.” McSame will not do anything to stop the 527s, like the smear boat veterans that smeared all veterans, led him to opt out. The 527s can raise unlimited cash to smear him with.

I said one fact, show me a fact and quite lying on this blog.

Some one saying we are in a recession does not mean we are.

So there you go I showed how you mislead and downright lie on your blog.

Do you know what the definition of a recession is?

SHOW ME A FACT NOT SOMEONES OPINION.

Also there you go again - I pointed out to you (Facts) about Obama flip floping (the supposed change candidate but he is the same old left wing socialist) and you stick you head in the said and say no he's not.

You are too easy to debate, did you go to school?

Communications guru said...

Let me see if I got this straight: some of the world’s top economists say the country is in a recession, and because I agree with them, some how you reach the ridiculous conclusion that we are all liars and I am misleading people?

I’m still waiting for you to show me where I lied.

As for Obama, the best you did was show one instance where he changed his mind and supported a bill. I’m still waiting for you to show me an issue where Grampy McSame has not flip-flopped. If I’m so easy to debate why do I continue to kick your sorry ass? By the way, shouldn’t you be listening to your hero so you can arm yourself with some more easily refuted Republican talking points?

Also, no one is “stick you head in the said.” Where did you go to school?

There are world renowned psychologist that say that a liberals mind is much different in a bad way than normal people. They feel other people should work hard and they should benefit from their work.

Should I believe them!

Proof man, why is this so hard for you to understand.

A recession is two negative quarters in a row. Last quarter of 2007 .6% growth, first quarter of 2008 and increase to 1% growth.

Proof like I just showed you, that is how you mislead people.

Again CG please think for yourself

Communications guru said...

“World renowned psychologist(s)” you say? Could that be like world renowned psychologist economists say we are in a recession? The difference is I provided links to my world renowned experts. Where are yours? I can think for myself. I have eyes, and I see how people are suffering.

Anonymous said...

A recession as defined by the WORLD two negative quarters in a row PLEASE point me to those quarters and the source and I will admit you are right.

"highly-regarded investor Jim Rogers" funded by George Soros - that tells me all I need to know

"Feldstein, president of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a professor of economics at Harvard University, said the chief causes of the shrinking economy are sinking housing prices, months of job losses, and turmoil in the financial markets.

The National Bureau of Economic Research is the official arbiter of when recessions begin, and it could still be months before the organization makes that determination. If it does, that would mark a formal end of six years of economic expansion.

Economists generally define a recession as two consecutive quarters of economic contraction, something that can only be measured after the fact. The US economy grew at a scant 0.6 percent rate in the 2007 fourth quarter." http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2008/03/15/recession_is_here_economist_declares/

Again a half truth told by you on this blog. You asked me to point it out when you lie and I just did.

The economy expanded 0.6 percent at an annualized pace last quarter, and economists surveyed by Bloomberg News this month predicted the pace will slow to 0.1 percent in January to March.

They said it would slow to 0.1 percent in the first quarter but it grew to 1.0%.

So please do some research and stop just stating the liberal talking points.

Man it is just too easy to prove you wrong. I prove you wrong in your own sources.

Communications guru said...

Are you for real? Because I don’t agree with you I’m a liar? I Sorry, you are wrong again. From your own definition “Economists generally define a recession as two consecutive quarters of economic contraction.” What does the word “generally” mean to you? To me it means that’s just one measuring stick. I provided three leading economists that say we are in a recession and because I agree with them some how I am a liar. Man, you are a sad man. You say you discredit one because he has some alleged connection to George Soros, a great self-made man, and some how he’s evil because he holds political views different than yours. So that’s one. What about Harvard University economist Martin Feldstein and how about the forecasters from Chapman University? Are they liars too?

This country is in a recession. You needs to get out a little more and talk to some real people if you think this economy is in such great shape.

I stand by what I wrote. It is correct and accurate, and the “whole truth.” I’m still waiting for you to point out a lie, not a difference of opinion. Man it is just too easy to prove you wrong.
