Come celebrate with the Livingston County Democrats on election night

Livingston County Democrats are conceding nothing, and they have been working hard knocking on doors, making phone calls and stuffing envelopes from soon-to-be President Obama all the way down to Democratic township board candidates since last spring.

There is still a change to volunteer and make a positive difference in your community and the world. Volunteers are still needed to phone bank and go door-to-door in the all-important Get out the Vote activities. We Know Sen. Barack Obama is leading in all the polls, but if we don't get out and vote it's all for naught. Do not be complacent. For somebody who has done a lot of phone banking and knocking on doors, it can be a fun experience. The good news is the weather is perfect, and you will only be dealing with the many Obama supporters in Livingston County to remind them to vote. You will not have to deal with the kind of McCain supporters who would take candy away from children and are rude to dedicated volunteers.

Shifts are available today from Noon to 4 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tomorrow, Election Day, shits are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Noon to 4 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Post-8 p.m.

After the polls close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, volunteers in the post-8 p.m. shift will go to the precincts and keep voters in line to vote rather than allowing them to become discouraged and leave. The party also needs people on Election Day to be poll challengers and to give rides to the polls. I was a poll watcher/challenger in 2004 and 2006, and it was such a positive experience and I got along so well with the election inspectors at my polling place, that I took the next step and am now an election inspector.

Once we have done all that we can to get our people elected and get this country headed back in the right direction, join all the volunteers and supporters to watch the results come in. An election return watching party will be held at the joint headquarters of the Livingston County Democratic Party/Barack Osama's Campaign for Change at 10321 E. Grand River, Suite 600, of the Fonda Place Office Park, in Brighton, just east of U.S. 23.There will be soup, chili, lasagna and soft drinks available. Bring a dish or snack to share. I have been to many of these potlucks, and I can tell you this, Democrats can cook.

For information or to volunteer for a shift, please call the office at (810) 229-4212, email at livcodems@sbcuc.net or stop by the office at 10321 E. Grand River, Suite 600.

So big guy. Are you willing to put up a prediction? I read in the paper that it would be a big deal if Obama got 40 percent of the Livingston County vote, since no Democratic presidential candidate has done that since LBJ.

So with the Dems going strong in the county, what's your prediction? This is tough for you because you like to take cheap shots with manufactured and cherry-picked facts. But to predict a success, you have to be a little more daring.

Pick too small of a number and you concede that Dems aren't making much headway in the county. Pick too large and you will have to face the fact that his vote total could come shy of that.

So what is your predictions? 40 percent? 45 percent?

As far as that goes, since the Rogers boys are such losers, how about a prediction on the percentage of votes that the county will give to Alexander and Anderson?

You are likely volunteering at the polls today, which is commendable, so maybe you won't get a chance to answer this.

My guess is that you don't want to. It will be much easier to spin the story tomorrow if you don't have to make a commitment today.

But maybe you will surprise me.

Hey,,,weren't you the guy who was complaining about the new law that requires voters to show ID?

Since I had to stand in a line a little today to vote, I paid some attention to the requirement. All I can say is: What's the problem?

I had to show my driver's license. If I didn't have one, then all I had to do was sign an affidavit that said I'm who I say I am and that I live where I say I live. It's on the back of the same sheet I fill out to vote. What in the world is wrong with that?

It doesn't stop me from voting. It's not the least bit intimidating. I don't even have to have a picture ID. Now, if I wasn't who I said I was or if I were voting in the wrong precinct, I might be a little nervous about signing something that would prove my felonious intent. But that's the point, isn't it?

If there are examples of people calling potential voters or trying to turn them away with intimidating tactics, then I say expose those bums and throw 'em in jail.

But a picture ID seems so logical that I'm surprised it hasn't always been in place. I don't know if there has been voter fraud, but this seems like a painless way to prevent it.

I think those who opposed this sensible plan were protesting too much?

Ugh...Me name nonny-mouse...me challenge you to LivCo Thunderdome. You make prediction...ME make prediction on how much vote Obama get.

Whoever right means their candidate is new President.
Ugh
*thumps chest*

Did you get enough attention now, you thread-jacking piece of shit?

Pathetic isn't it? They can't win on the national level, so they move the goalposts a little closer in.

It must make their sack look a little bigger or something.

Ka-dargo...Your comments are typical of the Livingston County Democrat.

I notice you didn't make a prediction. Perhaps the challenge was a little to close to home.

The poster didn't say Obama wasn't going to win the election. But the poster did challenge the drivel that indicates that Democrats are gaining ground in Livingston.

If that's so, grow some yourself and make a prediction...or maybe it's you who needs a magnifying glass.

Well, “Big guy,” President Obama will get 40 percent in Livingston County. I’m an election worker, and I have been at the polls since 6 a.m. to 9:30, but Obama won in Howell City Precincts 1 and 2. That’s tremendous.

If you can find some “cheap shots with manufactured and cherry-picked facts” go for it.

As for Anderson and Alexander, it really doesn’t matter much because they are, unfortunately, going to lose, but President Obama will win. I’ll say Anderson, who deserved to win, will get 40 percent and Alexander 35 percent in LC.

It appears they have gained ground in LivCo...what did Kerry get in '04? 35% or so? Obama appears to have about 45% or so.

So, yes, the Democrats did gain some ground.

What was that about a magnifying glass?

Come on, nonny-mouse, let's hear the spin.

Uhoh...still @ 45%...Obama IS DOOMED!!!

Film at eleven.

Also...Obama did strange things with Paris Hilton's dog. Let's get that number DOWN to 43%, cuz, you know, that's what I placed my over/under bet on.

Also...nonny-mouse is a douche...or did that NOT escape some folks' imagination?

Looking at the electoral map, LivCo, is a small island of red. How sad.

It makes LivCo look MORE out of touch with the rest of the world.

Sad, nonny-mouse, sad.

Yes, I was the guy who was complaining about the new law that requires voters to show ID, and I still hold that view. I guess I believe in the saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There was no fraud to fix, and we should be tearing down barriers to vote, not throwing them up. This was put in place to keep voter turnout down, especially minority turnout. There are many people in the inner city who have never owned a car and don’t need to. They don’t have a need for an ID card.

It’s here, and I can live with it, but there is no doubt it was to keep turnout down.

I'll talk to Guru because he as at least lucid. Dargo needs meds..quickly.

Congrats on making predictions. It's a good first step to reality. Obama looks like he will top 40 percent in county...maybe 42 percent. That's impressive. Alexander, Anderson and Lucas not so much. Which is too bad because they were decent candidates...but it shows Dems have a way to go.

Not sure how the Voter ID is a roadblock. Like I said, all you have to do is sign the very piece of paper you already have to fill out. So I ask you: Is signing your voter sheet (it asks for name, address) a ruse to keep the vote down? If you can do that, why can't you sign the other side?

As for keeping the vote down, we just had the highest voter turnout in history. Voter ID stops fraud, but it doesn't stop voters.
